Casal dels Infants – An exciting adventure for kindergarten children unfolded on the bridge of KMP Munggiyango Hulalo, docked at Kalianget Port, Sumenep. Dozens of enthusiastic children explored the ship’s bridge, discovering the cockpit and learning about the various navigation tools used in sailing.
Among them, Syifa (6) and Zaim (5) were especially excited. They curiously observed the captain’s cockpit, examining the steering wheel, radar, binoculars, compass, GPS, and communication radio.
Guided by the ship’s crew, the children received hands-on explanations about the functions of each navigation tool. Syifa and Zaim were part of a group of students from TK Al Karomah, Totosan Village, Batang-Batang District, who participated in an educational program on navigation and maritime safety aboard the ship, which operates on the Kalianget – Masalembu Island route.

Besides exploring the bridge, Syifa and Zaim also had the chance to try on life jackets, essential safety equipment for passengers in emergency situations at sea. When asked how they felt, Syifa shyly smiled and simply said she was happy. Zaim, on the other hand, laughed cheerfully and exclaimed, “It was fun!”
According to Khalila, one of the teachers from TK Al Karomah, the activity aimed to introduce children to the maritime world at an early age. The students learned about different parts of the ship and its navigation tools. They were also taught the importance of maritime safety.
“This was the first time our students had the opportunity to board a ship. They were very excited to see and try out the various equipment,” Khalila explained. She also emphasized that understanding navigation and sea safety is crucial, especially since much of Sumenep Regency consists of islands.
Although the activity was highly beneficial, Khalila admitted that supervising the children on board posed certain challenges. Some children were so curious that they ran towards the edges of the ship, which could be dangerous if not monitored carefully. “Since they are kids, some of them still tend to run towards risky areas like the ship’s edge, so we had to be extra cautious,” Khalila added.
This exciting adventure for kindergarten students became a valuable educational experience for the children of TK Al Karomah. They enjoyed their time on the ship. Additionally, they gained new knowledge about sailing and maritime safety.
