President Prabowo Will Launch Four New Education Programs
Casal dels Infants – New education programs are a key focus for President Prabowo Subianto ahead of the 2025 National Education Day (Hardiknas). The President is scheduled to unveil four major initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of national education. This announcement was made by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, during a press briefing at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 23, 2025.
According to Mu’ti, the programs reflect President Prabowo’s vision for a more inclusive and high-quality education system. “The plan is for the President to officially announce the four educational program packages during the Hardiknas celebration,” he said.
Mu’ti detailed that the four upcoming programs will focus on school rehabilitation, educational digitalization, financial assistance for honorary teachers, and support for teachers who have not yet obtained D4 or undergraduate (S1) qualifications. These initiatives aim to elevate teaching quality and accelerate the transformation of the national education system.

School rehabilitation will target the renovation of damaged or inadequate infrastructure, while digitalization will aim to expand technology access, particularly in underdeveloped regions. They expect assistance for honorary teachers to provide much-needed support and recognition. Improving teacher qualifications will also help enhance the overall quality of educators across the country.
In addition to these programs, President Prabowo has requested a re-evaluation of the academic stream system in high schools. This includes reinstating the Science (IPA), Social Studies (IPS), and Language tracks. Mu’ti stated that he would soon coordinate with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno. He also stated that he would report the findings directly to the President.
However, this proposal has sparked debate. The Indonesian Teachers and Education Association (P2G) argues that returning to fixed academic streams is outdated in the current Merdeka Curriculum era. P2G National Coordinator Satriwan Salim emphasizes that students can already choose subjects based on their interests without being confined to rigid streams.
Satriwan further emphasized that frequent policy changes suggest a lack of consistency in national education planning. “It seems like the education policy keeps shifting back and forth. In essence, nothing has changed, only the name,” he said.
He stressed that educational reforms should align with Indonesia’s long-term roadmap for 2025–2045. This alignment is essential to ensure policy continuity and effective implementation. We urge the government not only to introduce new initiatives but also to focus on sustainable and well-structured execution.
